Well, there are rumors everywhere concerning when we are going to get power again. You may be wondering, "How can she update her blog with no power?" CBCC has a HUGE generator that powers our dining room. The kitchen has been feeding the entire staff for the week, and providing minimal power for charging laptops and cell phones. Yesterday, we got the WiFi up and working, and now we can get online and connect with the outside world again. It's a blessing. It is quite interesting to hear the news headlines regarding the storm... My mom said that there was a news story saying that Pacific Power had to CUT their way into Clatsop County to reach us. That, in fact, was true. At one point in time, we were landlocked by the storm. All of the highways going out of Cannon Beach were blocked by downed trees, and one sink hole in the pavement. City workers, as well as power companies from out of town have been working day and night to restore power. As of now, Warrenton and Astoria (north of us) have power, as well as 1/5 of Cannon Beach (not us). Cannon Beach has this temporary power from a diesel generator. I heard that FIMA has been called in and will be arriving shortly.
However, while it all sounds terrible, for us, it hasn't been too bad. Like i said yesterday, Bailey and I have been staying with friends who have gas heat. Today, I am "moving" up to Warrenton to stay with friends who have power. We were a few days without a phone, so family was worried, but as soon as we got calling capabilities, family was informed of our safety, and they were relieved.
Bailey and I have learned the fine art of living out of things that will fit in our car. Each day, we live off a bit less because we don't want to haul all her stuff out all of the time.
In the end, I feel like I have been part of something big...like Katrina (even though it wasn't AS big). But to be a part of it, find joy in it, and see the body of Christ come together to get things done, it will go down in my memory as a faith and character building event.
